WASHINGTON, DC — The White House moved swiftly today to clarify its position on racism after President Trump shared an image depicting former President Obama and his wife as monkeys in a late night Truth Social screed, while Trump himself was cast as the rightful ruler of the jungle.
According to administration officials, the post should not be interpreted as racist because it was framed within what aides repeatedly referred to as the “whimsical Disney context of the Lion King,” a designation that apparently neutralizes centuries of racist imagery through the sheer power of animation.
“Look, if this were just a random social media post comparing Black people to primates, that would obviously be offensive,” said Press Secretary Leavitt. “But because it was done using characters from a beloved children’s movie, it becomes allegory. Or satire. Or something your uncle shares with a Minions meme.”
Officials stressed that the president was not endorsing racist tropes, but rather engaging in “mythic storytelling,” positioning himself as a noble lion king restoring order to a chaotic savanna previously mismanaged by “others.” The monkeys, aides explained, were not meant to evoke racist caricatures, but rather to symbolize “busy, meddling figures from the past,” a clarification that did little to clarify anything.
Administration officials also noted that invoking Disney specifically added “historical authenticity,” citing Walt Disney’s own well-documented comfort with racist caricature as proof that the imagery was not hateful, but rather “faithfully on-brand.” They further noted that Disney has a long history of repackaging uncomfortable ideas in catchy formats, and that Americans should therefore be “emotionally prepared” to encounter troubling messages so long as they come with nostalgia and a strong IP portfolio.
Critics argued the post crossed an obvious line, but the administration pushed back, accusing them of lacking imagination. “This is why people hate political correctness,” an official said. “You can’t even dehumanize your opponents anymore unless it’s in a musical.”
At press time, the White House confirmed it was developing an internal rubric to determine which forms of racism are acceptable, with early drafts suggesting that anything involving animated animals, sweeping orchestral scores, or a hero’s journey would receive “contextual immunity.”
