WASHINGTON, DC — President Trump has reportedly demanded an immediate expansion of the White House ballroom so the administration can properly celebrate the national debt reaching $40 trillion.
According to White House officials, Trump was informed this week that the debt had crossed the historic threshold and immediately began planning what aides described as “the biggest, most beautiful fiscal milestone celebration anyone has ever seen.”
“The current ballroom is simply not large enough for a number this tremendous,” Trump told reporters. “Forty trillion is a very big number. Maybe the biggest number we’ve ever had. You can’t celebrate that in some medium-sized ballroom.”
The proposed expansion would reportedly add several thousand square feet, two additional chandeliers, a second grand staircase, and what Trump has called “a much more presidential dessert station.”
Administration officials stressed that the gala would not be paid for with borrowed money, explaining that the government would instead issue a special series of commemorative bonds.
Treasury officials are said to be preparing oversized ceremonial checks displaying the nation’s total debt, which guests will be invited to sign before dinner.
Republican leaders praised the event as an opportunity to highlight the administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline.
“This is not a celebration of debt,” House Speaker Mike Johnson clarified. “It is a celebration of the historic achievement of reaching a very important round number.”
The evening is expected to include speeches on cutting government waste, followed by a 14-course banquet, fireworks, and a live performance by several extremely expensive artists who have not yet been informed they are performing.
Asked whether spending hundreds of millions of dollars expanding a ballroom during a debt crisis might send the wrong message, Trump dismissed the concern.
“You have to spend money to show people how serious you are about spending less,” he said. “That’s economics.”
