Billionaire Space Moguls Claim Artemis Rocket Only Looks Bigger Because of Camera Angles

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FL — Executives close to NASA report an unusual spike in private phone calls from three of the world’s most prominent space entrepreneurs shortly after of the launch of the Artemis II rocket. Sources say Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, and Richard Branson each independently requested clarification on whether the published measurements were “taken from a flattering angle.”

“All we’re saying is perspective matters,” Bezos reportedly told advisors while gesturing toward a whiteboard diagram labeled “optical illusion.” He later emphasized that his own rocket “has excellent proportions” and is “more than adequate for most missions,” adding that comparisons were “unhelpful and frankly a little unfair.”

Musk, meanwhile, posted a series of late-night messages on X suggesting that the Artemis rocket’s size was “inflated by lens distortion,” before quietly asking engineers if anything could be “added to the top” of his SpaceX rocket without affecting aerodynamics. One insider described a tense design meeting in which Musk repeatedly asked whether a “subtle extension” could be implemented “purely for structural reasons.”

Branson reportedly attempted a more philosophical approach, telling colleagues that “it’s not about size, it’s about the experience,” before trailing off while staring at a high-resolution photo of the Artemis launch stack. He later announced plans for a “sleeker, emotionally intelligent rocket,” though staff admitted the proposal included several notes reading simply “longer?”

Analysts say the reaction reflects a broader sense of competitive inadequacy among private space leaders, who had grown accustomed to dominating headlines with increasingly large vehicles. “They were comfortable comparing among themselves,” said one aerospace consultant. “Then Artemis walked into the sauna and everyone’s posture changed.”

By Thursday, all three billionaires had publicly agreed that the Artemis rocket “only appears bigger due to camera angles,” while privately commissioning new renderings of their own rockets using what one designer described as “very, very generous perspective.”
