NBA Announces James Harden Has Entered “Perpetual Trade Consideration” Status

CLEVELAND, OH — The NBA confirmed Tuesday that James Harden has officially entered “Perpetual Trade Consideration” status, following his latest relocation from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Cleveland Cavaliers, a move league officials described as “less of a transaction and more of a lifestyle update.”

Under the new designation, Harden will no longer be considered a long-term roster piece for any franchise, but rather a “floating asset,” permanently available in trade discussions regardless of performance, contract length, or how many press conferences he attends insisting he’s happy where he is.

“Every team knows the drill by now,” said one league executive. “You trade for James Harden because you think you’re buying the Harden Experience. Then, six months later, you realize you’ve actually subscribed to a recurring service you forgot to cancel.”

The Cavaliers, who reportedly believe they are the latest organization uniquely equipped to “unlock Harden’s true potential,” emphasized that this situation is totally different from the last several times it wasn’t. Team officials cited Cleveland’s culture, accountability, and Midwestern humility as key reasons Harden would not eventually grow frustrated, disengaged, or quietly start leaking dissatisfaction to the media by February.

Meanwhile, the Clippers released a brief statement wishing Harden well and thanking him for “his contributions, his leadership, and his ability to make trade deadlines feel urgent.”

At league headquarters, officials admitted the new “Perpetual Trade Consideration” label was created specifically for Harden after his name began appearing automatically in trade machine simulations, mock drafts, and casual fan conversations about roster flexibility.

“Harden isn’t being traded because teams hate him,” the league clarified. “He’s being traded because teams believe, deep in their souls, that they are smarter than the teams who traded him last.”

Harden is expected to report to Cleveland shortly, pending the inevitable follow-up deal.
