Coast Guard Classifies ‘Mom’ Tattoos as Emotionally Compromised Nautical Extremism

WASHINGTON, DC — In a sweeping attempt to address divisive symbols that has left sailors, bikers, and several confused suburban dads scrambling to cover their forearms, the U.S. Coast Guard announced this week that the classic “Mom” tattoo within a heart will now be officially classified as “Emotionally Compromised Nautical Extremism.”

According to internal documents leaked by someone who definitely has a skull-and-anchor tattoo on their calf, the Coast Guard spent nine months studying the psychological, maritime, and emotional implications of the iconic banner-heart design. Their conclusion: anyone willing to permanently ink “Mom” on their skin “may exhibit a dangerous level of maternal loyalty incompatible with proper nautical chain-of-command.”

Conversely, other symbols like swastikas, nooses, and the Confederate flag have been reclassified as “not that bad if you really think about it.”

A spokesperson clarified the threat level during a press briefing: “We have evidence that individuals with ‘Mom’ tattoos are prone to reckless acts of nostalgia, sudden bursts of sentimentality, and, in some cases, hugging.” This, they explained, could compromise operational readiness, especially if the tattoo is displayed prominently while near water.

The new classification places “Mom” tattoos on a growing list of traditional symbols the Coast Guard now considers “highly suspicious,” alongside anchor tattoos, which are now labeled “Unlicensed Maritime Stability Claims,” and swallow tattoos, newly designated “Potential Flight-Risk Indicators.” Pin-up girl tattoos, long a staple of sea culture, were already reclassified last month as “Morale Hazards of an Aesthetic Nature.”

Under the updated rules, anyone with a “Mom” tattoo will need to undergo an Emotional De-escalation Screening, essentially being asked, “Are you okay, man?” three times in a row. Those who fail will be required to cover the tattoo with a regulation-compliant sticker featuring a neutral phrase like “Parent Figure”, “Guardian Entity”, or “Love TBD.”

Tattoo artists are bracing for impact. “Half my business is anchors, swallows, and moms,” said one maritime artist while shading in a crying kraken. “If the Coast Guard bans those, the only thing left is wolves, butterflies, and Roman numerals. Society isn’t ready for that.”

Despite public outcry, the Coast Guard stands firm. “This isn’t anti-love,” the spokesperson insisted. “It’s pro-safety. And if your love for your mother is strong enough to violate maritime law, well… that’s a risk we just can’t anchor to.”
