LOS ANGELES — The Toronto Blue Jays touched down in Los Angeles this week brimming with optimism, insisting they’re “just happy to be here” and fully confident in their ability to bring home some form of tangible memorabilia from their brief moment on baseball’s biggest stage.
Manager John Schneider told reporters, “Winning is great and all, but have you seen the shine on those commemorative plaques? We’re here to make memories, not contact.” The team reportedly spent their first practice posing for photos, high-fiving fans, and taking turns imagining what “World Series Participant” would look like engraved in cursive.
While the Dodgers are favored to win by at least four games, the Blue Jays say they’re focusing on small victories — like remembering everyone’s names during introductions and helping Dodgers sensation Shohei Otani break a few more unbreakable records. “Our bullpen’s rested, our bats are mediocre, and our morale is unreasonably high,” said first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., holding a foam finger that read #1 In Spirit.
Sources inside the clubhouse say the team has printed matching T-shirts that read ‘At Least We Made It’ and have already pre-scheduled a parade route through downtown Toronto “just in case effort counts.”
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred reportedly applauded the Jays’ enthusiasm, confirming a new league initiative recognizing “emotional victories” and “attempted competitiveness.”
“We may not win the World Series,” Schneider added, “but when that Participation Trophy glistens under the Rogers Centre lights, people will know we cared.”
The Dodgers, for their part, responded graciously. “We respect Toronto’s journey,” said manager Dave Roberts, polishing his pre-awarded World Series ring. “It takes a lot of courage to show up knowing you won’t be here long.”
