NEW YORK, NY — College football fans across the country expressed grave concern Monday that the Heisman Trophy’s new DraftKings sponsorship has finally “crossed the line,” before immediately opening the app to wager on where, exactly, that line might be located.
“It’s just sad,” said longtime college football fan Mark Delaney, speaking solemnly while placing a $20 same-game parlay on whether the line was crossed during the sponsorship announcement, the first commercial break, or sometime around the third on-screen odds boost. “This used to be about amateurism, tradition, and pretending we didn’t know boosters were already doing this.”
Within minutes of the announcement, sportsbooks rolled out a full slate of related markets, including Integrity Crossed Before or After Acceptance Speech, Total Mentions of ‘Narrative Momentum’, and a heavily favored prop bet on Fans Saying ‘This Isn’t What College Football Is About’ While Actively Gambling.
“This is different,” insisted Delaney, who has wagered on college football every Saturday since 2014. “I’m fine with gambling ads on jerseys, stadiums, broadcasts, pregame shows, halftime shows, and my phone notifications, but putting the DraftKings logo on the Heisman? That’s sacred.” He then adjusted his bet after seeing the odds move.
Heisman traditionalists echoed similar outrage online, flooding social media with posts lamenting the loss of purity in a sport now openly sponsored by sportsbooks, fast food chains, defense contractors, beer companies, and vibes. Many clarified their stance by adding, “Not anti-gambling, just anti-this,” before asking followers for promo codes.
DraftKings defended the partnership, noting that the sponsorship simply “aligns with the modern fan experience,” which consists largely of yelling at referees, losing money on parlays, and insisting the system is rigged unless it works in one’s favor.
At press time, fans were reportedly furious that the Heisman had crossed an invisible moral boundary, though early betting suggested that boundary was flexible, movable, and available for alternate lines at +110.
